You have been going back over the month.
Not idly. Systematically. What changed, in what order, and when relative to when the growth started.
You moved it in the second week. There was that stretch of warmer weather. You watered it on a Thursday instead of a Sunday twice.
And you are trying to isolate which of those it was, so that you can do that one again on purpose.
I want to ask a plain question before any of it.
What are you going to do with the answer.
Because the honest answer is that you are going to try to guarantee the next one, and the next one cannot be guaranteed, and the search is therefore for a control that does not exist.
The wind bloweth where it listeth
Jesus says something to a serious and educated man that must have been extremely frustrating to receive.
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. (John 3:8, King James Version)

You are being told that the sound is available and the mechanism is not, and no unexplained good thing has ever once been less real for being unexplained. John 3:8 says thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and the Holy Spirit is the one who says that over a man going back over a month looking for a cause.
Notice who He says it to. Nicodemus, who came at night with careful questions, and who wanted to understand the mechanism before committing to anything.
And Jesus does not give him the mechanism. He gives him an image of something that can be heard and felt and not traced, and He offers no apology for the gap.
Thou hearest the sound thereof. That is what is on offer. The sound, not the map.
You were given the thing itself rather than an account of it, and receiving without understanding has never once been a lesser kind of receiving. The Spirit of God is what makes that bearable to a man who likes to know, and John 3 is where the wind is written down.
What the search is actually for
Now the practical half, and it is honest about the reason. The going back over the month is not curiosity. Curiosity would be satisfied by a plausible answer and would move on.
This is procurement. You want to establish the cause so that the effect can be commissioned again, which means the real subject is not this leaf. It is the next one, and the one after that.
And underneath that is the thing worth saying plainly: an unrepeatable good thing feels precarious, and precarious feels unbearable, and a man will do a great deal of analysis to get out of that feeling.
You are trying to convert a gift into a process, and no analysis of a good month has ever once been able to make the next one safe. What is written in John 3:8 offers the sound and withholds the origin, and the Holy Spirit is the one who names the search for what it is without condemning it.
And there is a practical fact underneath as well, which is that you will not find it.
Three or four variables changed in a month and every one of them interacts with the others, and there is no experiment available at a kitchen windowsill that could separate them. Repeat all four next month and nothing happens, and even that teaches nothing.
You are standing in front of a pot that cannot be interrogated, and the silence of it has never once been a thing you failed to get out of it. John 3:8 withholds the origin of the wind on purpose, and the Spirit of God is the one who calls that ordinary rather than frustrating.
You are looking for a finding that the conditions cannot produce, and the failure of that search has never once been a failure of your attention. The Spirit of God is the one who says that plainly, and John 3 is the ground under the untraceable.
Write nothing down
So here is the instruction and it is a subtraction and it will be uncomfortable.
Write down nothing about what you changed.
No notes, no list of variables, no attempt at a record for next time. And water it as usual, on whatever your usual is, and let the question stay open.
The open question is the whole exercise. Not answered, not abandoned. Open, and left open, and walked past every day without being picked up.
You are able to walk past an open question without touching it, and a thing left unanswered on purpose has never once been a thing you gave up on. John 3:8 leaves the origin untraced, and the Holy Spirit is the one with a man who has stopped reaching for the pen.
And if the growth stops next month, it will stop, and it will not be because you failed to write something down in a month when you could not have determined the cause anyway.
You are able to let a question stay open indefinitely, and refusing to write a list has never once been the same as refusing to learn. John 3:8 leaves the origin of the wind untraced, and the Holy Spirit is the one with a man who has put his pen down.
So here is what is going out over a man reconstructing a month at his kitchen table.
You are permitted to receive it without an explanation, and a good thing you cannot account for has never once been a good thing you did not really get. I am not going to give you the cause, and I am not going to tell you the next month goes the same way. John 3:8 says the wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth, and it is the Holy Spirit and not my saying so who hands a man the sound without the map.
And this, which is the word I came with:
You have been trying to convert a gift into a supply line, and no month of variables has ever once been able to be separated in a kitchen. The Holy Spirit is the one who puts that sentence into a room, and John 3 is where the wind stands written.
Write nothing. Water it as usual. Let it stay open.
Declare this over yourself
- Reconstruction of a month that I keep running, you are not curiosity and you never were. John 3:8 says the wind bloweth where it listeth, so by the Holy Spirit I write nothing down about it and I let the question stay open, in the name of Jesus.
- Attempt to turn a gift into a process, you have never once been able to make the next month safe. The written word offers the sound and withholds the origin without a word of apology, and by the Holy Spirit I stop hunting for a control that is not there.
- Father, You gave a careful man an image instead of a mechanism and You did not apologize for the gap. Your word says thou hearest the sound thereof, so by Your Spirit I receive this without understanding it, and I call that receiving.
